Potential car buyers, sellers and owner use Kelly Blue Book for research on selling price of vehicles and reviews. But KBB can serve many other purposes as well. Recently, the site released its top 10 list for family vehicles, below are the tip five. They are reviewed on available passenger seating, tow capacity, cargo space, life comforts and design.

2011 Ford Explorer
Coming in fifth is the 2011 Ford Explorer. In comparison to Explorers of the past which featured truck-style body-on-frame construction, the newest Explorer is a car-based crossover vehicle with unibody construction. What does this mean? A smoother ride, easier handling and better fuel efficiency. Also the exterior and interior styling has been increased since previous models.

2011 Ford Flex
The boxy design isn't for every mom and dad, but number four, the 2011 Ford Flex, is the most car-like family hauler you can drive for less than $30,000. It combines a 262-horsepwer V6 engine with a lower center of gravity than many three-row options. It also many amenities - including a small refrigerator - to make it a viable minivan substitute. Buyers can also upgrade to the faster version, the 355-horsepower twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine.

2011 Chevrolet Traverse
At number three is the Chevy Traverse, which has been on the KBB list several years. According to KBB the Traverse is among the most family-friendly vehicles on the market. It contains practical features like seating for up to eight passengers, plenty of cargo space, impressive fuel economy and a five-star overall crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to appeal to buyer's pragmatic sides. The Traverse also sports an attractive exterior styling and a nimble handling.

2011 Honda Odyssey
According to KBB, the Honda Odyssey easily makes number two on the list of best family haulers. Designed to please the whole family, including the driver, the 2011 Honda Odyssey offers a responsive handling while maintaining a comfortable highway ride. The kids will be impressed by the extra-wide 16-inch rear video display that can function as two side-by-side monitors and show two movies at once.

2011 Chevrolet Suburban
Finally, KBB reports that number one on the best family vehicle list is the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban. In addition to seating for up to nine passengers, the ability to tow up to 9,600 pounds and a whopping 45.8 cubic feet of cargo space (behind the third row), the Suburban returns a fuel economy of 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.
