Car Buying Tips to Avoid Fine Print Gimmicks

One of the most important parts of buying a car is to read the fine print. There is always a catch and you can save yourself the headache if you take the time to read the fine print. I've listed three of the common gimmicks that car salesmen will use. A complete list can be found in Car Dealer Hell.

1. "Offer not compatible with other offers" - This means you will not be able to get both the low-rate financing and the "X" amount of cash back after the purchase.

2. "Residency and other mileage restrictions may apply" - Meaning the offer depends on where you live, and in the case of a lease, how many miles a year you drive. What is the point of a lease when you can't utilize the car? A way to avoid this is to over estimate how many miles a year you will need.

3. "For Bonus Cash, buyer must take retail delivery by…" - In order to receive the "deal" you must purchase the car before a certain date. This will put pressure upon you to not only buy quickly but impulsively.
